Concert Review: Weathers Are Punk Elvis At Bowery Ballroom
Imagine Elvis Presley as the alternating lead singer of The Clash or Sum 41, and you have Weathers. The band gives a pop punk vibe with a Jailhouse Rock edge that makes them campy, grungey, and, overall, distinct. At Bowery Ballroom, compared to the last time I saw them, Weathers have changed A LOT.
Finding your path and image does change how people see you because you have changed how you see yourself. The “Happy Pills” band still sing to not being numbed even if it means going mad, but they seem more vibrant and rebellious than ever. From “Casual Mondays” to “1983,” every song felt like a promotion/ campaign against a common challenge in this world: apathy. For them, no “Problems” can make them choose to shut down. Instead, they prefer a breakdown.
Weathers – 1983
Minds breaking is what you feel while their chords wack and whisk through the air as if oxygen can be churned. Yet, its lead singer Cameron Boyer that took the audience’s breathe away. Wearing their finest, Hot Topic garb, teen girls cheered for their Pop Punk Prince like he was an Emo version of Dirty Harry; swindling hearts and whiskey with irresistible panache. His presence and personality with the crowd was comparable to other heartthrobs like Harry Styles or Shawn Mendes, but there was a MASSIVE difference. Boyer was the “dream guy” for the outcast girl; for the young woman that knows what it is to sit alone at a table, look into a mirror with self-loathing, and decide to lose your mind, for a night, because it felt like a burden throughout your day. He attracts the hearts of women whom understand this because he sings as the guy that know this alienation, as well.
Weathers – Problems (Video)
From “The Night Is Calling” to “I’m Not Ok,” Weathers riveted the stage with angst and vivacity. They were in constant motion; bopping through the stage as if to stand still meant death. Their frenetic sound, style, and messages amplified to their crowd that they are the band you see when you are tired of how you move in life, but you know you can NEVER stop moving!
