Concert Review: Yellow Shoots Is For The Boo’d Up At Knitting Factory
When the world gets darker, it clutches to many comforts like music to gain the the nostalgia of better times and the dancing optimism that, perhaps, they will return. Communally, not everybody has had a “fabulous” history, but, individually, we can say that we have had moments of bliss. Yellow Shoots shimmers the times when loving someone, loving your home, loving your neighborhood, and loving your friends feels good enough.
“Jessie,” “Desert Rose,” and “Everything” felt very human despite being based in a funkadelic, dream pop sound. Instrumentally, Yellow Shoots sets up his tracks like hits of peyote. Suddenly, your reality is elevated spiritually; making your surrounding feel heightened even though they have not changed. We were still at Knitting Factory, but somehow song such as, “Sirens” and “Magic On My Pillow” made you feel like you were in the neon-club version of your home. There you were in your living or bedroom; cuddling up to your lover as if you could feel their touch through Yellow Shoots’ guitar.
Imagine That! Music being so potent you think you can touch it like the skin of your lover’s hand. THIS IS WHAT R&B AND SOUL IS ALL ABOUT!!!!!!!!!! Yellow Shoots represents music you feel in body and soul so much that you think you need to be in body and soul with someone else. #loveisreal His voice can easily join the ranks of Allen Stone and Jamie Lidell, and forward you to picture indulgent, romances in your head. In some ways, Yellows Shoots’ performance is cinematically revelatory.
We all gain ideas/ standards for love from novels, films, and songs, of which all of them reference those small, intimate moments where cozying up to bae on a sofa couch is the equivalent to a star being born. Thus, Yellow Shoots etches out his voice and presence like candlewax burning sultriness through a dark room; making you see that, if you open your eyes enough, there is a light. While he is coolly engaging as a guide for his, his music/ show will spark you for the rest of your night. Thus, if you are “boo’d up,” I recommend you see Yellow Shoots perform.
