Concert Review: Run River North Make Me Wiser At Rough Trade

There is a beauty in noises that feel like silence talking; as if Heaven cracked open to speak, into your soul, that it is time to look up. Considering that the last few times I saw them, I compared their sound to positive punk; imagine my surprise at seeing them unafraid to simmer their songs into something more powerful than positivity music or awesome covers and instrumental riffs, which they had. Instead, at Rough Trade, they were aiming for wisdom.

The difference between wisdom and positivity is that wisdom can be dark. Most of the time wisdom is the light that goes into the dark, and how we turn our frights into lessons of bravery, loss into teachings of gratitude, and old wounds into our new strengths. Moreover, wisdom is never boring. No matter the tempo, melody, or hook, Run River North’s music felt maturer, but not in an “old way” as much as in “I have learned” kind of way. Now, this perspective could be because I had just finished up my interview with Alex, where he gave some enlightening points on the highs and lows of making a career. Hence, admittedly, I was looking to see how his words connected to his songs like, “Run or Hide,” “I’m Amazing,” “29,” and “Growing Up.”
Run River North on Audiotree Live (Full Session)

Run River North make music for those of us who are adulting and realizing plans don’t mean anything. Yet, that is NOT always a bad thing. From “Okay Cool” to a cover of “Mr. Brightside,” having dreams fail can mean new loves blossom, and part of growing up is realizing that not everything you lose was truly a loss. Again, the interview really inspired my seeing of them; as they gave a performance that was lively, rambunctious, thoughtful, and made me want to pull for a band that has truly pulled themselves through so much. They are light-hearted, colorful, hopeful, and, in a way, everything we hope to be as adults realizing “to be” is not so easy. For More Information On Run River North Click Here.
