Diandra Interviews Mitre: Behind The Mysticism of Music

When it comes to showmanship and spiritualism, Mitre is your ARTIST. Listening to their music is, literally, a religious experience. They are unabashedly fusing Latin American mythology and faith into their sound without turning into a “preach-fest”. Instead, they sing to the daily struggles, but with a magic and rhythmic flare that could move Harry Potter to do the samba. Thus, I am unsurprised that interviewing the Mexican duo, Luis Mitre and Andie Sandoval, was as magical.

Diandra: Do you think Latin American culture is naturally spiritual or has been raised to be attracted to mysticism?

Luis: Latin America has been filled with great cultures like, the Incas, Aztecs, and Mayans. All of them believed in gods, and when the Spanish came with their saints and brought Africans with their gods, we became a melting pot for beliefs in higher powers. Whether or not you believe in God, our history has placed in our DNA a belief in mysticism or a universal, higher energy.

Diandra: Going along with that idea of energy. There is an idea in mysticism, which is touched upon in “Los Santos Del Amor”, that spiritual energy can cure material problems. Do you believe that is so?

Andie: We are very spiritual people, and we do believe that how you approach things, in perspective, can impact how you experience life, and can even change it. I’ll give you a perfect example. When I feel really bad or am thinking negatively, I know that it is internal, and in realizing that I am energy, I gain the power to change my psychology. Then, I can gain a more positive perspective. It is something you feel when you are listening to good music with a friend, and you are feeling its vibes and frequencies; you become healed. So, it is not whether spiritual energy or music can be a miraculous cure, but it can give you the strength to live better.
Mitre – Los Santos Del Amor

Diandra: So your newest track “Los Santos De Amor” does talk about giving recipes to attract energies like love. What would be your literal recipe for love?

Luis: Well, if you want to attract love or get rid of heartbreak, the first thing you must do is download our song, “Los Santos Del Amor” de Mitre on Itunes. (They laugh!) Put it on repeat. Go to buy a candle in a glass. Pray to your god with all intention, and take a piece of paper and put all that you desire from love or life. As you pray to your god take this opportunity to really vent emotionally. Say everything, good or bad, that you feel; again, while listening to our song “Los Santos Del Amor”. Then, once you are done venting, take a shot of tequila, relax, have fun, and see in the next few weeks how life responds to your petition. Now, if this spell works and you see results, go to social media and #lossantosdelamor and tag Mitre to tell us how the spell works. I swear it will work because intentions really change outcomes, and our music will make you feel good while your intending. (They laugh)

5) Dale unas semanas a ver come te responda Dios o tu santo!

Diandra: Well, now that we have created a love spell. My next question is rather “philosophical”. As singers of love, do you believe it is a human necessity?

Andie: Yes, it is a necessity because it is, literally, why we move. Love is a combination of every virtue like, hope, understanding, and compassion. Love makes you feel positive, and helps you connect with others in a way that fulfills you. Love reminds and teaches you how to share yourself with someone. We represent that love has many faces, like physical, nostalgic, empathetic, etc.

Diandra: What has being an artist and performer taught you about love?

Luis: So much! Love and music is constantly evolving to us because our life is evolving. The minute we think we know everything, like Socrates said, we die. Every concert is different, like every day, and every time we play the same song, we learn something new about what it means in terms of love.

Diandra: So what do you think the future brings for your music?

Luis: It is funny you ask that because we were talking about this the other day, and, suddenly, I said, “Let’s just stay in the present.” We are always looking to the future, as if we can know about it before it happens. Yet, I want to simply let it happen, and when the future becomes my present, I will know what inspires me then.

Well, I can honestly say that I have never walked away from an interview with a discussion on Socrates, a love spell, and a sincere contemplation on how I am “energy”. Yet, that is Mitre. They see their music as a spiritual experience; one where people can dance, pray, and believe in love through joy. For them, positivity is not an energy that makes your surroundings better, but moves you through them more happily. Hence, that is reason enough to start being positive.
