Concert Review: The Happy Fits Are Happier Than Ever
I’ve seen The Happy Fits a few times, and they are just silly. If you’ve seen their video for “In The Lobby” that is their vibe and energy: an adult version of Sesame Street. People might think that is cheesy or insulting, but just look at how every 25 something reacted to Steve from Blues Clues doing a TikTok. The Cello-Pop group just knew how to make being grown feel really fun and child-like at Webster.
When Steve appeared on TikTok, it was as if we had all graduated college, and wished that Steve and that little blue dog could do an episode of filing taxes and the art of texting someone you like. In that way, The Happy Fits felt like a colorful, sonic kids show on being an adult. Their songs felt like the catchy laughs and lessons we all must face at realizing, we all grow, but growing upward is a trickier thing to do. When you get a group of best guy friends being all happy and bromantic, publicly, it is feels infectiously joyous. It turns their shows into a much-needed party and pacifier to adulting, especially in this cold, NYC winter we are experiencing, we needed crowd-surfing cellos and Wednesday references to keep us warm.
Right now, New York is sporadic in every way.. weather, money, people. It feels like a concise, chaotic snowball minus the snow. Yet, as The Happy Fits approached their stage life’s chaos felt normal and manageable, which is why they were such a good ticket with Daisy The Great. Both used humor and light-heartedness in a way that felt friendly and fun about the mundane randomness that is being an adult,.
