Diandra Interviews Azanti: For The Love of R&B
I´ve been thinking, lately, a lot about love. How simple it is … beautiful, enriching, and easy. For Azanti, these ingredients are the essence of his music, with a splash of fun, rhythmic, and pure vibey energy. In our interview, we discuss how he views and dreams of love: enough to put it into sound.
DIANDRA: RNB is the genre of love. What are three things that seduce your love?
AZANTI: – Authenticity
– Vulnerability
– Passion
DIANDRA: RNB is also defined as romantic. What is your dream date? Details please!
AZANTI: A dream date would be an intimate evening in a city rich with musical history, like New Orleans. We’d start with a private, candlelit dinner at a restaurant/jazz club. Immerse myself fully in the culture.
Diandra: Having charted, literally, around the world, what is one place you have yet to perform but want to visit? What about that place you think embodies your sound?
AZANTI: I’ve always dreamed of performing in Tokyo, Japan. The city’s blend of ultra-modern and traditional elements and I really resonate with that.
Diandra: Who are three Afrobeats artists that are deemed ¨on the rise¨ or looking to be that you feel that world should be listening to, as well?
AZANTI: Taves, FirstKlaz, Zaiam
Diandra: Your songwriting has been described as ¨soulful¨ and ¨poetic. ¨ What are five words you would use in a poem to describe your soul?
AZANTI: Resilient
– Passionate
– Reflective
– Empathetic
– Evolving
Diandra: If Apex Village, your collective, were an actual village, what would be three of its laws?
AZANTI: – Creativity Over Conformity
– Support each other’s Strength
– Continuous Growth
Diandra: You have discussed how you always need your cup of water before you write. If music were water, what do you feel it fills you with?
AZANTI: Music fills me with inspiration, rejuvenates my creativity, quenches my thirst for expression.
DIANDRA. You have collaborated with YP in music as much as laughs, what is one of your funniest moments with hum?
AZANTI: We did this rendition of Burna Boy’s “Dey Play” on Sault’s “Envious” beat outro. Turned the song into some folk-highlife vibe. It was cold we burst laughing right after. Got it on video too. The stream of consciousness.
DIANDRA: Your parents CLEARLY brag about you. What was their proudest moment of you to date, and what did they say that you will keep with your forever?
AZANTI: Probably me being able to touch people lives the way I do. Still amazes him. I don’t think he understands how far I can take it. I don’t know if I do my self.
DIANDRA: Culture is everything, but it influences more than just our sound. It is influences our spirit. I already asked how you see and define love via RNB. What has your culture taught you about falling in love?
AZANTI: My culture has taught me that love is a powerful, communal force: not just an individual emotion. It’s about connection, respect, and mutual growth. Falling in love isn’t just about romantic relationships; it’s about forming bonds that uplift, challenge, and enrich our spirits.
