Film Review: BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIEFILM Is A Feminist Epic

In essence, comedy is the choice to laugh at tragedy, and, in perspective, BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIEFILM has so many tragic moments, especially for women. Out October 23 on Amazon Prime, there are countless times someone saw a young woman in danger and instead hammered her into a crate, priced her at 500 dollars in the middle of an elite Cotillion, or a pair of QAnon conspiracy lovers tried to convince her to sell herself to a politician to “save” her dad. Thus, the things men do for women so that they can do something to them is a recurring theme in Borat 2 thanks to the addition of Maria Bakalova as Borat’s daughter: Tutar.

Bakalova’s Tutar is wide-eyed about the world and her father; hoping to emulate him as a journalist, while he hopes to sell her to Mike Pence and restore Kazakhstan’s honor by doing so. Bakalova totally keeps up with Cohen’s crazy, of which he has no problem with her taking the the lead of the film, and helping it gain a feminist edge. While Cohen as Borat becomes multiple characters like, “Country Steve” and Phillip Drummond III, unlike the last film, Borat is not simply discovering America’s ignorant ways. He is also discovering its cruelest, even deadliest ones, and revealing something I had not considered as one of the reasons Trump won: sex. Of course, it seems obvious, as sexism played a role in his 2016 run, but I was surprised how many times a prank turned sexual without Borat’s initiation, including the infamous Giuliani scene and a haircut where a patron genuinely looked like he wanted a “happy ending.”

From frustrations to fetishes, I was shocked how oddly more sexual this film is compared to the original, and the latter had Borat doing kama sutra moves, naked, with his manager. It made me think that, perhaps, why Trump’s sexual indiscretions have never damaged him politically, compared to others, is that he “owns” he is a “horndog,” and a lot of his supporters, in the film, seem to be, as well. They loved staring at “fun,” young girls, didn’t mind faxing notices on their potential prostitution, and approaching them sexually: again, including Giuliani’s desire to go all “Jeffrey Toobin” without anyone asking. It was as if they were bursting to say, “I WANT SEX” while their wives, as seen in a Republican Women’s meeting, recoiled at the mere discussion of a woman’s “vagine” pleasure.

As Borat tries to kill the Coronavirus with a frying pan, he discusses with two white, Southern men how the Democrats are deadlier, and one of them reveals something that I always knew was true; he didn’t want “liberals,” “democrats,” and oppressed communities to have the same or as many rights as him. Think About It! There would be no such thing as privilege, of any kind, if there was equality of every kind. Therefore, he was not fighting for his freedom as much as fighting to take mine. The truth struck me like lightening did the Liberty Bell because it is the reason why to say, “Black Lives Matter!” is considered “dangerous and divisive” to many white people, or the reason that America built internment camps for Latino children and their parents and called it “immigration reform.” It is the reason that, for all the charities rich people run, they never want to be taxed more to actually elevate the poor, and it is the reason many “mama’s boys” can declare their admiration for their mom without wanting her to have equal rights to them as a woman/ human being. America is still divided between owners and the owned; “owners” being people that wish to own other people and” the owned” being people that only wish to own themselves. Trump has always presented himself as an “owner.”
