Concert Review: GLASS ANIMALS ROAR WITH POSITIVITY For Prospect

SUE ME! I guess I forgot how positive Glass Animals, which I know is a strange comment. For me, the group stood out for its eclectic sounds and style. Capturing a futuristic groove that made them feels as if their recording booth was located in gameboy. Yet, playing some of their newest music off of Dreamland, an album recorded after the near fatal accident of their drummer, Joe Seaward  the album felt most appropriate for a time, of which most of us are rebuilding and reviving what we felt was lost.

If in 2020 New York felt apocalyptic, in 2021, New York is oddly feeling like a safe-haven from Covid. The world did not believe this disease could be so deadly, and, unfortunately, many believed our New York deaths were deserved. We are a city known for its life, especially its crazy, nightly one, which some see as “sinful.” (Snooze!) Yet, there is a pure heart to New York that attracts people from all over, in their delusions, delights, and madness, to believe that in this place, of all cities in the world, their dreams can come true. In a way, New York is a Dreamland, which is why Glass Animals music and overall essence connected with the crowd like E.T.’s shiny finger reaching for Elliott. I guess that would make lead vocalist Dave Bayley….E.T.?

Okay, well, now I have reached the Upside Down because I am comparing lead singer Dave Bayley to E.T, but I cannot reiterate enough how HUNGRY people are for live music. While I have affirmed virtual is here to stay, there is nothing like an over-priced cold beer and your friends drunk on joy in a public space. People were loud, laughing, obnoxious, and happy!!!!!! IT WAS GLORIOUS! Thus, the cool, styled vocals  of  shined like FUN. We NEED THAT! RETURN FUN PLEASE 2021! You got six months to do it!!!!!!!! Yet, I have to give credit where credit is due. From the lighting/ visual and overall dynamic between the group, the night felt like a long-awaited reunion. Finally, we all had the space and vaccinations to be young again.

Listen, there are a LOT of YOUNG artists out there, and I, personally, hyperventilate when I get press releases for 12 year olds dropping their first pop track. IT JUST FEELS SO YOUNG! From “Dreamland” to “Heat Waves,” classics like “Gooey” and “Pork Soda,”their music felt like Youth itself: happy, fun, stranger, and eager to move. With lyrics that appeal to the wonder and weirdness of being a dreamer in a world that is quite nightmarish, the importance of Glass Animals and live shows was felt. For More Information On Glass Animals Click Here.
