Artist Close- Up: Leopold And His Fiction Know “It’s How I Feel”
It is time for Artist Close-Up Sunday! A time to highlight the artists that have or will DOMINATE, and my first pick is Leopold And His Fiction. I have covered the Texan group for awhile, and it is nice to know that even in the midst of this 2020 pandemic, they are still rocking like it is 1970. We need that, which is why “It’s How I Feel” is single for classic rock lovers that, like me, believe classic genres should always have new flesh.
The video is like Freddie Mercury joining the cast of Fraggle Rock, with Leopold, of course, being Freddie. This childhood show, from the 80’s, brought you musical muppets bashing drums like they were boulders, and the song’s chords, certainly, feel as such. Moreover, it captures the colorfulness of the era as if Leopold took Joseph’s technicolor dreamcoat and expunged it for all its color. What is notable about the video is that, like most, artists it was done and released in these crazy, Corona times.

There are two things I predict in music’s future. 1) It is a full expectation that artists will become more self-reliant and creative in how they display their brand/aesthetic. 2) The 90’s and retro will be dominant. Why? Because when we don’t know what the future will bring, we look at the past with nostalgia and slight hope that it can tell us the future could be better if the past was so good. Leopold and His Fiction do both with this new track, “It’s How I Feel.” If loud and bombastic enough to make you want cause a ruckus, but Leopold’s voice and verses are potent enough for you to see that you only want the world to burn because you feel burned by it.
