Concert Review: Hulu’s The Runaways Has A Season of The Witch
Color me shocked at seeing Season 3 of Hulu’s The Runaways. The fun of The Runaways is, that of all the tv shows based on comics, it was the one that most embraced the outlandishness and sort of “Dynasty-esque” drama of comic books. For however super-powered a hero can be, no power can out-maneuver the craziness and randomness of their world, especially for melodramatics. In this way, the series shined, which is why its sad to see it end.
Yes, Season 3 is the final season of The Runaways, and I am gutted because it happily got weirder. This season has everything from aliens to evil, demonic witches. It is taking trips across dimensions and time, introducing ghoulish creatures, and even makes cell phone addictions turn people into crazy killers. WHAT! And some of all that happened in one episode! There is even a trip to hell, which may not seem as bad when you think of the weird, alien facility that had certain characters trapped in pods and eventually leads one to be trapped in a television. Yet, I would prefer being trapped in a tv then possessed by an alien seeking revenge or kidnapped by a coven eager to turn me in to their magical weapon. Yes, this is The Runaways season 3, and good luck describing this show without looking like you confused a bottle of Ayahuasca for Kombucha.
Marvel’s Runaways: Season 3 – Trailer (Official) * A Hulu Original
The Runaways truly packed its deranged storylines and had NO PROBLEM being too much this season, which is why Season 3 shines the most out of all three. Oddly enough, it is so good and crazy that you feel ready for a Season 4. It ends on a high note, and feels like the series finally catches its stride. By the last episode, there is a powerful catharsis for both viewers and the characters that makes you feel like their past journeys are wrapped enough for a new adventure. Sure, you might say that is how a finale should feel. Yet, instead, it felt like a new beginning for a series waiting to continue: not one ready to say goodbye.
Each actor gives their full, whole-hearted embrace of their characters; exuding an ease and confidence not seen in prior seasons. It is as if getting the final notice made everyone, including creators Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, say let us go all OUT. Hence, Rhenzy Feliz’s Alex Wilder, Lyrica Okano’s Nico Minoru, Virginia Gardner’s Karolina Dean,A riela Barer’ Gert Yorkes, Gregg Sulkin’s Chase Stein, and Allegra Acosta’s Molly Hernandez feel the closes to their comic book versions they have ever been. Add on the Elizabeth Hurley as the deliciously glam, evil sorceress Morgan Le Fay, you walk away saying BYE MALEFICENT! She is ICONIC in her scene-stealing role, and gives the entire cast a revamp in how to emotionally play their new connections. As you see The Runaways confront and realign with their parents, the show ends on its highest, most empowered note. The Runaways Season 3 Is Out On Hulu.
