Album Review: Alma Wants To Know “Have You Seen Her?”
Have I seen Alma? MULTIPLE TIMES! I am a MASSIVE FAN of Alma because she can get a party lit in both song and presence. With a cowboy hat in hand, she sees a space for its potential of euphoric madness. You don’t just dance to Alma’s music; you do a weird combination of moshing and disco moves. She makes you want to bounce off a wall and proceed to boogie. That clash between crashing into the world and gently picking it up to turn it into a disco ball above you is way makes Alma’s Have You Seen Her? oddly encompass what I call “Quarantine Zoomies.”
If you do not know what a “zoomie” is that is when an animal gets an abrupt, inexplicable burst of energy like, when your dog, suddenly, starts running in place for no reason. Part of the struggle for Quarantine Life is that there is so much repressed energy, and it is not so easy to know towards where, who, or what you can place that stacked adrenaline. Alma’s Have You Seen Her feels like Fortnite held a Zumba Class. You snatch your workout fashion and enter a virtual reality where dance moves go viral and you fall for a couch-potato whom, in the digital world, looks like Henry Cavill as The Witcher. Yup! I’m In!
ALMA – Stay All Night (Day 16: Quarantine Video)
I have to say that this record that this debut album is surprising sonically. While her previous EP’s felt brighter and literally filled with commanding verses like, “Cut The Chit Chat,” this album has a starry nostalgia that looms over tracks such as, “Stay All Night,” ‘Worst Behavior,” and ‘Final Fantasy” like a dark, night sky blooming with only specks of light.Yet, this is ALMA! She can only get so grim, which is why her debut feels, oddly, perfect for Cuarentena Vida.
ALMA – Find Me (Lyric Video)
While many are sad and woeful, it is also hard not to have a laugh or feel like you want to dance. Our inner, unrelenting hopefulness for better days and our confusion as to how sad or scared we should be is the inadvertent, emotional epicenter of Alma’s songs. From “Find Me” to “Nightmare,” her raspy vocals will remind you of simmered toned version of SIA; both sharing an ability to sing their songs like pleas. The result is a debut album that marks what we knew about Alma…. she is someone to see AND HEAR! Have You Seen Her Comes Out May 15. Click Here For More Information.
