Artist Close-Up: Ambar Lucid Is “Dreaming Lucid”

With her EP, Dreaming Lucid, Ámbar Lucid is marking herself as the dreamiest, Spanglish Singer. Interweaving both languages with a fluidity that makes them feel like one, her sound is the perfect home to cross linguistic and imaginative boundaries. Sonically, Dreaming Lucid truly sounds like a dream. It’s title track begins like a pink haze; dropping over you like it did Dorothy in the poppy-fields. It is here Ambar sews her self-thoughts together with Spanish and English verses that make  “wonder” feel like a quilt the mind makes for itself. The irony that her melodies brighten like lights on rainy windows come from the theme of her record: clarity. “Eyes,” “Letter To My Younger Self,” and “Letting Go” have her making clear to herself, more than her loved ones and those that hurt her, that she can get better. She is telling the past and fantasy versions of herself 

Beautiful can be treated like an easily tossed term, but Dreaming Lucid shows beauty should feel more common. From “Painted Red” to “Somewhere In Between,” Ambar Lucid is simply observant. Synths and strings blur in the back to create a sound that feels cloudy and bright like sun rays breaking through fog. Yet, this dynamic is perfect because, again, Dreaming Lucid is Ambar Lucid’s declaration that she is a dreamer, she will fight for her dreams, and that is her reality.
