Album Review: Bülow Hits You With Teen Angst In Damaged Vol.2

Is it strange to say Bülow sounds “damaged”? Welp, in her new EP, Damaged Vol.2, she has mastered a grit and wounded vocality that helps her stitch pain into a sound MADE for the clubs. It is a strange dynamic that is massively appealing, and shows this high school student, in the Netherlands, will graduate to take over the world.

“I was imagining myself trapped in a metaphorical cage of my own boredom. Duckworth’s voice and lyrics helped bring those visuals to life,” Bülow says about her single “SAD AND BORED Feat. Duckworth”. Like her other two tracks “Honor Roll” and “You & Jennifer”, she manages to make youthful angst feel mature and relatable. Suddenly, your crush moving on or struggling to keep up are not just teen issues, but things you will undergo as a working twenty, thirty, or even forty something. Yet, her soundscape is strictly now.
bülow – SAD AND BORED (Audio) ft. DUCKWRTH

From Au.Ra to Mallrat, teen ladies are rising from around the world to show the journey to mental clarity is not tethered to adulthood. I truly believe once we start hitting the double digits of our life, things go downhill (lol!). Yet, in all seriousness, these young gals make teen angst universally appealing and understandable by giving it a rhythm. Every digi-beat and baseline of Bülow’s Damaged Vol.2 could easily slide into a playlist or nightlife circuit around the world, which is crazy. To be so young and in tune with what is now in music mainstream but also mindfulness is incredibly powerful. She may be singing about being damaged, but Bülow’s future is too promising.
