Album Review/ Concert Preview: Seratones Want POWER

On September 13, Seratones are coming to Baby’s All Right, and promise a show of Power. Their new record is a groovy Lexus into what it takes to dominate. Power is one of the most complex, vast terms within the human dictionary because one person’s perceived weakness can be seen as a strength to another. Yet, AJ Haynes defines Power strictly as the love you build for yourself to love others even better.

You hear it all the time! Self-love matters! Yet, Power is not only about loving yourself to love others, it is also about learning how to move people: move the closer, move them out of the way, or move them in the place you need them to be so you can be FIRST! Throughout the record, AJ is giving me Sharon Jones vibes as she figures this out. Her voice feels like a Soul Train dancer; just going down that Conga Line like Rosie Perez “doin the right thing.” #SpikeLeeReference Her voice is like a cup of warm cocoa under fiery, disco lights. CAN YOU IMAGINE! Instead of a wooden fire, she makes the rhythm keep her natural heat.

Seratones – “Power” [Official Video]

Songs such as, “Fear,” “Crossfire,” “Who Are You Now,” and “Heart Attack” have AJ discovering that the more you like yourself the more you see how others like you. Hence, self-love can make you love others better, but, more importantly, it help better pick who are your “others.” Who are the ones that are going to stand by you as in, “Sad Boi,” “Lie To My Face,” and “Gotta Get To Know Ya.” All in all, this is a grooved album that makes me feel the Seratones will give a golden show. Personally, I think the best show is the one the bridges fun with empowerment; the one that shows feeling good about yourself is not silly; it is strength, and Power gives Seratone the opportunity to deliver that message live.
