Album Review: Shadowboxers Turn To The Power of Apollo

Nashville R&B meets Atlanta Pop? YES PLEASE! Shadowboxers are releasing their debut EP, Apollo, and proving that years of hard work and a personal endorsement from Justin Timberlake really do payoff. When a star looks at you as someone who can shine, you have no choice but to rise like Apollo.

Apollo is a pure pleasure. No over-thought, but meticulous construction go into songs, “Wolves”, “Timezone”, and “Hot Damn!”. The trio understand that listeners do not simply want to “dance and have fun”; they want to feel like the coolest people to have ever done such things. Think about it! People dress up to go to the club, and even though they will knowingly sweat and get drunk, they refuse to deny make-up touch ups or remove their expensive blazers. Shadowboxers gravitate to the suave, sultriness of a having a fun “night-out”; planning their instrumentals like you do your outfit!
Runaway Official Lyric Video

From “Runaway” to “Shadowboxer”, there is subtle sexiness that courses through the album that derives from their harmonies. Adam Hoffman is the lead voice feeling like core of this sun that these three guys have formed. Matt Lipkins and Scott Tyler follow Hoffman’s shine like two voices assuring he is orbit. They blaze through their songs with a casual brightness; untethered and unbothered by anyone that tries to dim their star-power. Sure, they are “another” trio singing to love, lust, and dreamy desires. Yet, when they unite, they truly are demagogic, and have the sonic back-drop to make you feel coolly godly, as well.
