Album Review: Ella Vos Asks You To Watch And Wait
Watch And Wait can be taken as a double entendra. On one hand, it seems to be the incessant quote of parents trying to convince their children patience is a virtue. One another hand, it is the silent oath every human being makes to their self against any “hater” that told them they could not. For Ella Vos’ new EP, titled as such, both meanings come to life.
Sonically, Ella Vos could be categorized as fuzz pop. Her synths and chords haze like a pink fog hovering over a small town, and Ella is the every woman ready to go to the “big city.” This notion/ tale is as old as time, but represents the natural human need to be “big.” Lyrically, for Ella, we are like walking universes, which has its pitfalls when it comes to handling attention or lack of it. From “Lonely Road” to “Cast Away,” she sings to what it is to feel like a “world within a world.”
Vocally, Ella drips her voice like juice from honeydew. Because her sound feels streamed by a summer sun, her vocality comes off clear and straight in texture; as if her verses are really fabrics being hung to dry. In a way, they are, at least, emotionally. “Ocean,” “Temporary,” and “Empty Hands” have Ella taking all the self-doubts that have soaked her relationships with others, her dreams, and herself, and letting them be warmed by music and patience. It is a beautiful idea; sound and the lesson of patience combining to make you dreamily dance and “Watch And Wait.” For More Information On Ellas Vos And To Buy Watch And Wait On January 25 Click Here.
