Album Review: Empress Of Declares “I’m Your Empress Of” The World
Empress Of’s I’m Your Empress Of feels like a scintillating, pop mystery wrapped in bubblegum. What makes this album so exciting to hear, is that Empress Of really goes off in presenting and exploring her sound and how it can imprint a visual. Thus, it hard not imagine her being the Empress Of SEVERAL worlds, and, frankly, we need her to be.
From “Love Is A Drug” to “Not The One,” Empress Of goes through the many feelings of “hook-up” culture. She feels like a queen running through er royal court in Ibiza, and deciding which prince can stay the night and which one will be her king for life. Thus, her verses have an intoxicating mix of love-lorn, lustful phrasings that bring a fun, “woe is me” dynamic to the record. Ugh, to live in world where you are powerful and desired! She is like Daenerys feeling bloomed and burdened by Jon Snow’s love: minus, the whole, crazy ending. (I’m Still Mad About It!)

I said it with my Les Gordon Altura review, and I say it again with Empress Of’s I’m You Empress Of; people are looking for artists that are new to them. If you are wondering, “Should I release?” I say, “If you are trying to expand your fanbase, the GO FOR IT!” After all, we can only listen to our faves so much before they become our most tired. Empress Of’s record will feel refreshing to even her most avid fans. It is sonically luxurious; escorting her into the club scene with a burst of flavorful sounds and thus scenarios. It is hard not see Empress Of scoping kingdoms for real, dream love connections as in “Should’ve” and “Hold Me Like Water.”
Empress Of – Give Me Another Chance (Official Video)
Vocally, Empress Of is similar to FKA Twigs in how they emote their notes. Both sing with an inquisitive sultriness; as if love is just beyond a mystical forest they must pass through with their wits and beguiles. In some ways, as a woman, it hard not to feel like that scenario is NOT real. Yet, Empress Of’s ability to sound saccharine even in heartbreak, like in “Awful” or “Void,” makes this album one to OWN for Pop lovers.
