Album Review: G Herbo And Southside “Swervo” Your Nightlife
I had the pleasure of listening to Swervo at a party setting, which is exactly where G Herbo and Southside’s album will thrive. This record was made to be the backdrop of every good time you have with your friends, family, and some good food. Thus, as cocktails flowed, food was passed, and chatter thrived, the record proved its home is in your life.
From “Honestly (feat. Juice WRLD)” to “FoReal,” every rhythm falls into a vibe. All you need to do is press play and let G Herbo and Southside build a space for you that dabbles between the harder, traumatic moments that formed both artists and the parties/ opportunities that define them now. I said in my Rich Homie Quan review, and I say it again for their collaboration: when you go from dark moments in your life that not many will know or understand to lighter ones that are also beyond definition, it is hard to rap your head around it. That is why Swervo jumps from tracks like “How I Grew Up (Feat 21 Savage) and “Focused” to “Huh.” Yet, that is the human spirit: one minute we are licking our wounds and, in another, we are acting as if we have never been cut.
G Herbo – Swervo (Official Music Video) ft. Southside
No matter where G Herbo’s lyrics turn, you cannot deny Southside’s impeccable production. He concisely delivers soundscapes that feel “now”. It is as if Swervo was made to be a compilation for 2018 club music. These are the songs you hear when friends are singing to Hip Hop out loud or going to the rooftop for some drinks. I know that may seem simple, but there is a meticulous nature to Southside’s production. From “Bonjour” or “Who Run It,” he balances a concise fluidity to this record that allows G Herbo to churn his verses without ever letting you feel that this is album is nothing more than a record to bounce to.
