We’ve all dreamt of the lavish light, and, with how many celebrities are live-streaming during this pandemic, it is hard not to want that life more while feeling ever so distant from it. Yet, part of why we want the lux life is because it feels so emotionally easy; all I have to do is look good in my yacht, dripping in diamonds, and have no wonder as to whether I am a good, deserving person because I have champagne. Doesn’t that SOUND AWESOME! Welp, Jaguar Jonze’s Diamonds & Liquid Gold, certainly, captures the vibe.

Lyrically, Jaguar Jonze approaches wealth like the novels, Crazy Rich Asians or Gossip Girl: Woe is the life of these poor, wealthy, people! It is so hard to find a genuine person amongst a sea of Lamborghinis! Yet, we love that melodrama because it makes what appears like perfect lives feel as imperfect as ours. From “Beijing Baby” to “Rabbit Hole,” there is a very “travel” feel to Jaguar Jonze’s sound. Her rhythms sound like they are on a private jet through the world to turn global sounds into a cosmic atmosphere. This allows Jaguar Jonze’s voice to have a very saccharine, narrative feels as she explores beats that feel made for the dancehalls of Ibizan nightlife.
