Album Review: Låpsley Will Take Us Through Water

The biggest aid and detriment to Låpsley’s has been people’s comparison to her as “The New Adele.” First, Adele is still here. Second, what such comparisons do is place people into a “comparative mode,” of which they listen to her music to then become divided amongst: Team A, which declares her as Neo-Adele or Team B, which says, “NO WAY!” The truth is that Låpsley does have a soulful, even old-world take on love, but she has always been more ethereal/ fantastical in her sonic approaches. Thus, Through Water feels like her complete honing of her visual/ celestial take on being in love on earth.
Låpsley – My Love Was Like The Rain

While most people sing to love through their age, Låpsley sings to love through time; as if she is in an hourglass dodging and diving through the sands of time until the glass get tipped over again… to start anew. In that way, she completely understand relationships are like a series of hourglasses in our life: once they run out, a new one begins to teach you time is not of the essence as much as an essence, in itself. Yes, this is a rather philosophical review of Through Water/ Låpsley, but I am fan, and this new record feels succinct in her soulful take on what it is to think about love, youth, and life when time breezes through all of them to make you easily older but not so easily wiser.
Låpsley – Womxn

“Speaking of The End,” “Sadness Is A Shade of Blue,” and “Womxn” are just a few standout tracks on Låpsley’s power as a lyricist. She approaches feelings like abstract painting; using parables and symbolism as if sentiments were lines and shapes you color in to give your love a vision. From “My Love Was Like Rain” to ‘Our Love Is A Garden,” Låpsley’s record feels quietly vibrant; as if she wants listeners to close their eyes as they hear her voice and see its tone can be as deep and fluid as water, itself. Thus, as she ripples through notes, it is hard not to feel like love is an ocean you, inevitably, cross. For More Information On Låpsley And To Buy Through Water On March 20 Click Here.
