Album Review: Lennon Stella Debuts In Three. Two. One

I was SUPERBLY impressed by Lennon Stella’s debut, Three. Two. One. From looks to tracks, she has the makings of an the next, EPIC pop star; the young woman that will emanate fabulosity in fashion while singing to the ugly fabrics and tears that is heartbreak. Her debut is comparable, in some ways, to the quick and bombastic rise of Dua Lipa or Sasha Sloan; women that, somehow, sell broken hearts and bigger dreams.

I know you are not supposed to compare artists, but, sometimes, you can see a line of similarity, even in their difference. These women may not sound or look alike, but they do provide a core need for true, Pop Lovers: fantasy. From “Games” to “Kissing Other People,” Stella seemingly returns pop to its more classic, lovelorn essence, but maintains its modern, synth-waved moods. Sonically, the record is hazed, fuzzed, and blued to swim in the open ocean that is Lennon Stella’s heart and her very relatable, youthful woe: WILL I EVER FIND A REAL LOVE?!

Lennon Stella – Fear Of Being Alone (Official Video)

Every song such as, “Fear of Being Alone, ”Jealous,” and “Save Us” approaches a vey real anxiety a lot young people have: HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO FIND LOVE AFTER THIS PANDEMIC! Okay, the album was most likely completed before the coronavirus, but dating was not much easier before and I’m sure afterwards its going to be both hard and enriching. For Lennon, Love is this gnawing fantasy in her mind that the Disney Princess can get the prince and independence; only to find that, even in 2020, there still feels like an exchange. It is as if you have to kiss multiple frogs just to find a “Pretty Boy” that is, actually, pretty inside, as well.

Honestly, I love this entire album. Three. Two. One truly bursts Lennon Stella unto the pop scene; making her feel like a star that you are just realizing has BEEN BORN! It is a confident, striking record that hits right into the genuine stresses of young women hoping to find their guy in a world that can make it hard for us to find ourselves.
