Album Review: Picture This Make An Imaginative, Romantic Debut
Picture This is releasing self-titled debut, and the Irish duo is eager to make you imagine life according to their eyes. From admiring their lovers to gazing into Ireland’s picturesque landscapes, Picture This is places in verse and chord every that has defined their life. The working-class artists know what its like to put on your boot-straps and scruff up to work a hard day, but they also understand the pull of your heart to write a poem and string a guitar in homage to life’s easier beauties. Thus, their album is all about how life can be a melting pot of hard duties and divine treasures.
Picture This – Never Change
In thirteen tracks, Picture This swing their acoustics like axes and shovels picking at walls of notes. Every song such as, “Let’s Be Young”, “Everything I Need”, and “Never Change” roll out melodies like red carpet for love to waltz upon in humble glamor. Picture This have a way of revealing how simple love is to captivate you. How your lover caresses your hair, looks at you, or genuinely asks if you are okay are all tiny details that feel so big after a long day of work or another mental episode of anxiety. This may seem like a long, basic statement, but Picture This’ self-titled debut thrives on the romance of this notion. “Jane”, “Addicted To You”, and “Take My Hand” are all pleas and lyrical paintings on how much every human needs someone to love to remind them that they are capable of such a virtuous action. When we think of love we think of it, in terms, of receiving, but Picture This add nuance by saying it is our capacity to give love that proves we can take it in. If you can kiss your lover with all your heart, even after all the bad times you have, then you are doing well. Hennessy’s vocals frolic in excitement, but still remain cool-headed in how they annotate and elaborate certain verses. It is as if he is walking through life with his fellow bandmate Jimmy Rainsford, and describing the things he loves, likes, and could do without, all while using chords, keys, and drums like the bricked paths and green pastures of Ireland.
