Album Review: Shallou Ignites Magical Thinking
We have all heard that our thoughts can manifest energies. For Shallou, music is that energy. Put your thoughts in a lyric, and then put that lyric over a melody, and you don’t simply have a song: you have a vibe. Shallou, whose music plays with the theme of cycles in life and love, shows this truth in new record, Magical Thinking.
This album is a total MOOD. It taps into a frequency that is so specific in its dreaminess, which is perfect for these times. Personally, I find myself quelling news anxieties by putting on my headphones, and letting music take me outside to where I can’t go. Yet, Magical Thinking does not just take you outside to the world; it takes you to another planet. Shallou arranges synths and analogs as if they can be looped in the rings of Saturn.
There is something starry or rather subtly galactic to his soundscapes, which makes his features feel like universal commentaries on love. From Daya to Zachary Knowles, he gets the stars of tomorrow to sing about how love has always been the same. Think about it! Absolutely, every person, no matter what era or place in the world, knew heartbreak. They knew what it was to be devastated or absolutely enthralled by the love from someone else.
Shallou’s lyrics and competitions feels like sung reminders that you are not alone.EVERYBODY struggles with love, but Magical Thinking is about elevating those struggles into better relationships with someone new. Thus, from “Mutual Love” to “Good Together (Feat. Ashe)” this album is mists and moves like a love spell. For More Information On Shallou’s Magical Thinking Click Here.
