Album Review: The Night Game Is The Harrison Ford of Radio
The Night Game’s self-titled debut is a cross between Maroon 5 meets Peter Gabriel. It has a fun 80’s vibe that makes love feel like a holy dance. This singer knows how to grab the sexy and soulfulness about love, and smash them into radio hits.
Scoping through The Night Game’s catalogue, you feel like you are hearing Billboard’s Top 40. While most people dread the idea of sounding too “radio” or “mainstream,” radio hits are still hits. People like tracks that make love and life feel like a light journey even when hits a few shades. The Night Game understands this by joining guitars and synths as if they were speed-dating to make a melodic match. There is a vibrant zest to songs such as, “Bad Girls Don’t Cry,” “The Photograph,” and ‘Die A Little” that make The Night Game feel like the Harrison Ford of Pop.
The Night Game – Once In A Lifetime
From American Graffiti to, of course, Indiana Jones, Ford is known for playing charming playboys that are, secretly, very amorous. The Night Game feels the same. He annunciates and annotates his vocals as if they drip and salivate from him; carrying a slight drawl of desire. Such a dynamic pumps his love-lorn lyrics and image of the guy that wants to have fun days and settled nights with the right “wild flower.” From “The Outfield” to “Coffee And Cigarettes,” he paces his music like filmed loved stories: going from bright rom-coms to soapy noirs. Yet, again, all this is built for mass appeal, which is why I LOVE this album.

The Night Game’s LP was made to be played for masses of people. Music can be divided into many moods and motivations, and some artists make tracks for isolation while others make them for joined celebration, i.e. the mainstream. We all need songs that we all can sing and enjoy together, the same way we need a tracks to be relished and observed privately. When it comes to The Night Gam, you cannot listen to “Do You Think About Us” and “Back In The Van,” and not ignite a jovial sing along with friends.
