Artist Close-Up: Honey Child Are The Choir Your Life Deserves
A chamber pop choir has formed to turn your mundane life into a Grecian tale of heroism. The name of this choir is, befittingly, Honey Child. Blessed by Zeus with voices as gold as honey, as emotionally stinging as a bee, and combed to live in nature, their self-titled debut is as fabulously dramatic as this introduction.
We all want drama. We all say we do not want “drama”, but we certainly prep and even look for this type of action. There is something terrifying and intriguing of lightning striking our life, and our plans coursing through plot twists as if God is writing out story like a potential manuscript to be published by Randomhouse. Led by opera singer, Claire McKeown, you certainly feel like life has thrown you a gauntlet you wish too grab through songs such as, Gotta Wait Another Night”,“She Calls His Name”, and “Run With Me”.
There is an innate melodrama to Honey Child’s sound that falls back to their literal operatics. Once you hear McKeown sing, you know you are hearing something special and distinct like, the noted difference between wine and water. If radio-pop is the daily jug of water we drink as we travel, then Honey Child is the wine we pour when we want to stop and toast to the scented roses of our life. As Claire is backed by angelic harmonies from Dayna Richards, Jacquelyn Sky, Claire Boutelle, Daniel Mandell, Aimee Jacobs, and Cynthia Zitter, you are irascibly drawn into seeing your life as an epic. And why not?
Sometimes, I wonder why do I say, “No” so much? While there are many typical, pop themes to their debut, it is the feel of their music that ignites you to see your life differently and more gorgeously like, someone who says “YES!” to adventure. “Our Last Goodbye”, “Standing In The Shadows”, and “I See Other Sides” deserve to soundtrack your life and every empowering, romantic film possible.
