Artist Close-Up: Don’t Sleep On Sleeping Lion

Sleeping Lion are taking the charm of the EDM world and wrapping it in a pop candy box. Roomates Nate Flaks and Noah Longworth McGuire created the Sleeping Lion project in 2015 after writing songs via Skype one summer while Noah was in Rome and Nate was in New York.  Since then, the duo moved into LA  to embrace a scene that is infusing pop with a every soundscape possible. Genre-Bending is really just code for mind-bending, and Sleeping Lion  understand that in newest track, “How We Know (Feat Cass Miller).”

Sleeping Lion create tracks that glitter. You can see the shine and neon of their rhythms, and Cass Miller’s voice meets that darkened sparkle with tenderness. Think of it! Most of the time, when we see confetti and glitter splashing over a dance floor, it is dark, and the light reflects upon them in the contrast of dancing shadows. In some ways, Sleeping Lion see their rhythms as such, and Miller’s voice bring benevolence to that sweet, swirling dance. As the dark comes, nightlife begins, and so do sweet opportunities to let go of our days.

In “How We Know,” Sleeping Lion observe the settlement of love. It is crazy, when you think of t, how our heart settles on something. For better or worse, certain decisions and dreams, whether they be for people or things, feel like set paths in our souls; we simply have to explore where they take us, and who we will become because of them. Such a theme is a subtle, electro-pop gem.
