Artist Close-Up: Lucky Daye Shows Your Life Is “Painted”

Raised in a religious cult, Lucky Daye spent some of his most formative years ostracized, particularly from music. For him, humming a Bible verse or a Dr. Seuss rhyme was the closest he’d get to mainstream’s “riskier” sound. Yet, when his mother escaped, the world opened up to him, until nature, in the form of Hurricane Katrina, took its course and brought with it a drove lessons on what is sacred about humanity. I mention Lucky Daye’s backstory because where you have been does impact how you set where you are going.

Releasing II, the second part of his upcoming debut Painted, Lucky Daye’s sound feels bombastic like a man unlocking and unlinking from any handed idea of truth. From “Karma” to “Real Games,” Daye is using his voice, and thus his soul, to measure what is his truth. Now this word, “truth,” can be vast, but, ultimately it means Lucky Daye to see the world for himself, even if means being “Misunderstood.” This his explains why his lyrics speak to a the social and individual isolation a person can feel when they do not who they are and the world is not inviting to them either way.

Lucky Daye – Karma (Audio)

Beneath sounds that represent everything about New Orleans, from its blues- jazz scene to its Hip Hop/ Motown influences, this record feels sophisticated in sound. Lucky Daye gives groove an elegance that allows listeners to realize getting down is the same stepping up. You can dance like moving art, of which Lucky Daye’s voice is your painter. The singer treats notes like they are fireflies  he is capturing in a jar; they are light, soaring, and unpredictable in direction. Add on that his soundscape is boldly/ fashionably experimental, and it is with good reason Lucky Date is soaring to so many ones to watch lists. For More Information On Lucky Daye Click Here.
