Artist Close-Up: Rainsford Is Here For Your Emotional Support
I am 100% vibing to Rainsford’s new record: Emotional Support Animal. While when you think of such a creature, you picture a cuddly puppy or a furry cat, there is nothing cuddly or furry about this album. It is sultry, sexy, and uses baselines like runways. Yet, it makes sense that she calls her album an Emotional Support Animal; usually, we need support when we do not feel confident, and this album makes you feel SAVAGELY CONFIDENT.
There are certain artists that I ABSOLUTELY ADORE, but I cannot hear them when I am trying to get work done. From Beyoncé to Bishop Briggs, the minute I hear their tracks, I feel too pumped about life. Rainsford falls into that category. “Japanese Time”, “Better Days”, and “S.I.D. (Sunshine in December)” make you get up, move, groove, and high kick life. Similar to ALMA, Rainsford has this “Spice Girl” effect that makes you feel like you can do anything, while, technically, doing nothing. It is not like dancing is the most “productive” thing, but it is the fun you have that helps you create later on.
From “Up In The Air” to “Flowers In A Vase”, Rainsford’s voice beams and simmers like a light rays fizzling in temperature. She knows how to turn up heat by turning up the warmth you feel about yourself and your moment. In some ways, this new artist is example of why so many classic ones “made it”; music is the breather we need to stop, have a good time, and then go off to figure out how we have been living.
