Artist Close-Up: Swizz Beatz Is Ready To Release “Poison”
Hearing some of his newest works at his Freedom Party, Swizz Beatz was on another level of joy. He had just come back from Egypt, it was his birthday, and he was continuing his expansion as a curator of art and, particularly, fashion by Faith Conexion.
Aiming to splash together avant-garde with street fashion, Faith Connexion was being covered, along with Swizz Beats, by Spirit And Flesh Mag. I name these three forces because they each represent the alienation of cool, and moved people to both dance and think on how they wear sounds and style. To be great, you do have to be stand alone, and to stand alone you need to fashion a sense that people want to share. The whole point of being a leader is knowing that you have something others wish or would follow, and creating it as something that bonds them to you. In many ways, Poison aims to do just this, especially because Swizz Beats is living his best life.
Swizz Beatz – Pistol On My Side (P.O.M.S) ft. Lil Wayne
The first quarter of your career is always spent building it, then comes the second quarter which is about maintaining it, and, finally, comes that last one: enjoying it. This is by far the favorite time of every artist because you can be as creative and un- self conscious as you want to be. Poison seems to be heading with this notion. Naturally, it feels like a culmination of everything Beatz has learned as a creator of rhythms for legends of Hip Hop like, DMX and Jay-Z and, as well, as a rapper.Yet, it feels heightened in clarity, confidence, and, of course, unabashed baselines and drums.
Swizz Beatz has NEVER made a song that was not a hop, skip, and bop to the dance floor. Poison will be no different, but it is aligning as a record that most embodies him. From the graffiti, glittered outwear of Faith Connexion to the thick, thousand pages of fashion in Spirit and Flesh Mag, Swizz Beatz Freedom Party was a time to celebrate urban culture as a leader of cool. Now more than ever, from my beloved Boogie Down Bronx to the artistic droves of BK, the streets are the new runways of style, and Swizz Beatz has always been impactful to both music and swag.
