Artist Close-Up: Vexxed Thank You Sooo Much For Religion

It is befitting that the trio, known as Vexxed, met at Hebrew School because often it is our religious upbringing, which makes us feel lifted, that also teach us the idea of being cursed. Banishment, punishment, and smiting are all Biblical terms as well as love, wisdom, and patience. Vexxed’s Debut EP, Thank You Sooo Much, shows what sphere of spirituality you gravitate to is reflective of who you are and where you are going.

Are you fear or are you faith? That is the question. In five tracks, Vexxed come off like they are starting a ritual. Their guitar melodies are blurred as if someone passed the peyote, and lyrical illusions are abound trying to prod at your soul. For the trio, their fave show Ghost Adventures was a major inspiration, which explains why “Mood Ring” has a haunted house feel. This explains why Zach Sewell will deepen his vocals to a shadowing vibe, while Lucy Stone’s voice comes off like flashlight sifting through the darkness. Yet, it is not all dark.

Tracks like, “Gimme The Money” are sultry, smooth electro, and are what Vexxed laughingly call their “club banger”. The three friends have their humor throughout their EP, using hints of sarcasm and lightness to explore the seriousness of feeling or wanting to feel spiritual. Yet, songs such as, “Heaven’s Away Team” and “Yr The Only One”, give cool, Unknown Mortal Orchestra vibes that add a psychedelic force to Vexxed’s sound.
