Artist Close-Up: The Warning Has Been Given And Received
Desde Monterrey, Mexico, the Villareal sisters are the embodiment of rock n’roll. They emanate a gut-busting chaos through their sound that makes you feel like the Hulk sipping on some Hennessy and bashing through walls with an IDGAF attitude. Frankly, I am here for it. Women who rock will always be welcomed in my book, especially if the emote the natural strength of Latinas. Blessed to see their showcase, I can confirm these young ladies feel like Haim and Led Zeppelin untied forces to create them.
There is something refreshingly classic about The Warning. Dany, Ale, and Pau remind you of the rebelliousness of this genre. While many take notes of Rock’s loud, abrasiveness; this genre was not born to be gawked at or make statements for nothing. This was a genre born from the unseen, and it many iterations and “stepchildren” like, punk, always stemmed from groups that were socially ignored but still socially abused like, Blacks and the working class. Thus, The Warning entered their performance with an “You are GOING TO LOOK AT ME” attitude that immediately summoned the dangerous excitement of rock n’ roll, which, at its essence, is confidence.
What makes me really excited about The Warning and hopeful for their future, is that they are such a powerful presence. As their voices and instruments mold together to form a sonic fist that punches through any BS, you realize there is a magic to Rock. It is the spokesperson for all those that don’t have a voice at the table to finally be the loudest one to sing on it. These three hermanas totally capture that vibe and I AM HERE FOR IT!
