Concert Review: Bay Ledges Treats Music Like A Kiss At Bowery Ballroom

Bay Ledges is the type of artist that you cannot avoid loving. He is a jam session with legs, and at Bowery Ballroom he enamored a crowd with his smooth beguiling. After all, your first impression of music comes from its sounds.

For me, a beat is like a handshake. It is the first form of respectful, but charming contact between spirits: i.e. yours and musics. The lyrics, personally, are where conversation lies because, again, I’m a writer. I am for the words of living. Bay Ledges verses are based on the passionate anticipation you feel when you want you and your partner to give into desire. You know the feeling! I am talking the car ride home after a perfect date when you KNOW that no one is sleepy! It is a simple adrenaline rush backed by the constant funkadelic sounds/ sirens of excitement and nostalgia. for him, you are either arising or awaiting serious scintillating connection.

Vocally, Bay Ledges has a girded voice like, a soul wedged between heartbeats. He carries the heavy emotiveness that we expect from jazzy or funkadelic singers. Again, lyrics are simple, but passion is weighty. He drops feelings over songs the same way a rich man drops money over his mistress: with lust and showmanship. He wants you to know what he has even if it is hidden under a veil of sound that invites you to get down. While his presence is cool, collected, and witty, the biggest difference I saw in his performance was that he felt like a frontman/ solo artist. Compared to his Mercury Lounge show, where sister Georgia Hurd stood right beside him, at Bowery, Bay Ledges/ Zach Hurd like the epicenter of the universe, which is where he belongs.

In my first review of Bay Ledges, I noted how much Zach wanted his band to go far, of which his ambition and discipline as an artist surfed as much as his melodies. I admire determination, and I enjoy seeing people be so blatantly “dreamy.” This “feeling” I got at Mercuryamplified at Bowery because so did Bay Ledges. He was 100% percent invested in the crowd as if they were 100% HIS! Whether they were there to see Magic City Hippies or Yellow Shoots did not matter, they got a show with Bay Ledges. For More Information On Bay Ledges Click Here.
