Concert Review: Bay Ledges Bring A California Vibe To Mercury Lounge NYC

Bay Ledges’ played a bright show at Mercury Lounge. The siblings, Zach And Georgia Hurd, moved to LA, California for a change of scene that has, clearly, inspired their sound. There is a sunny breeziness to their music that both elevates the ease from which it enters a concert atmosphere and also your mind.

Instrumentally, Bay Ledges are soulful, wavy pop that flows through their folksy vocals/ harmonies. Hence, there is a natural “grab your shades and lay on the sand “ vibe to their music that makes their show feel like a quick, fresh breathe. You can inhale songs such as, “Mango” and “Tween Love” for their ability to make you rise into a happy mood. If you feel bad before their show they will pick you up with their uptempos and Zach humorously explaination on how oncoming subways’ “trashy wind” become an inadvertent, but welcome AC in New York’s hot summer. Zach, definitely, has a shining, leading personality, that could be summed up in his turquoise, tropical shirt with pictures of countries. He, clearly, has a drive to make Bay Ledges a top band, and they certainly have the hits to do it. New songs like, “Safe”, play up to the soaring sentiment of love, and how it can make you feel like a flying angel when really your more like a flying arrow. The difference is noted in how every song marveled on the desire to be loved and the, at times, eager moves we make to get it. From getting drunk to getting bold, which, at times come hand in hand, love can make you go crazy with passion. Lyrically, they show that though you may think your approaching relationships with an angelic grace, you might be more comparable to a weapon being thrown, I.e an arrow. No matter what, relationships are learning experiences that teach something about yourself, and they reveal this nuance with catchy hooks and phrases that stay looping in your mind even after their song is done. Moreover, they enjoy their music, which adds to the crowd’s enjoyment, as well.

You can always tell when an artist feels for their music. While many focus on whether a musicians’ performance is from the heart, at times, it the heart they have for it that makes them more intriguing. There was not one moment in their performance when their feet were not moving. It was if their music, literally, left them soaring like love. Watching their inability to be still was an inadvertent symbol that music 100% moves them, and their sound will certainly move you. For More Information On Bay Ledges Click Here.
