Album Review: Bryant Myers Debuts In “La Oscuridad”

Bryant Myers has not had an easy life, but this past year can be divided between a blossoming, buzzing career and a vicious kidnapping attempt. The rising Reggaetonero understands life is divided between the good and the bad or, better yet, la luz….. y La Oscuridad.

For his debut, Myers has blended the modern trap sounds of Reggaeton with its classic underground feel. It is as if he has puts a high class club in a basement; combining sophisticated rhythms with seedy baselines. You feel like you are having fun amongst the shadows of this world, which definitely amps the party, sensuality, and IDGAF vibes of this record. Tracks like, “Triste” and “Mas Que Ustedes,” grapple with invincibility complexes; the feeling that you simultaneously own the club and are lost in it. With features from Arcangel and Bad Bunny, he feels solidified as the next big think of Reggaeton even in romance.

“No Eres Mia,” “Momentos”, and “Pa Pasar El Rato” elaborate the smoothness of his voice, and its ability to appear unfazed by any beat dropped or synth waved. Like Arcangel and Ken-y, his voice feels like cocoa over rhythms, which makes his lyrics of internal and external struggles feel delicious and daunting. How he can maintain his cool in seeking “Dolares,” “Bryant Myers,” and “Prende Un Phillie,” but let it be known: no issue is too big to not stop dancing. Whether he is longing for a better love or better days, Bryant Myers debut is a classic, Reggaeton album, which means you are going to dance.
