Concert Review: Buzzy Lee Tends To The Heartbroken At Park Church

Watching Buzzy Lee at Park Church Co-Op, I wondered how hard it has been for her as an artist. Real name, Sasha Spielberg, I thought about how many times people dismissed her own artistry or how much effort she has place to create it because her life seemed guaranteed thanks her accomplished father. Yet, when you hear her songs, you hear the voice of someone who knows you can be given access to a road, but a path is strictly made by yourself.

If I have said it before I will say it again; CHURCHES ARE AN AMAZING CONCERT VENUE! My inner catholic is in awe while sitting in pews, and watching Jesus under hazy, concert lighting. Yet, with themes of rejection, dismissal, and the feeling that she has a voice but no listening ear, Buzzy Lee’s songs felt ripped from his divine cloth. She fit perfectly with the church atmosphere of solemnity, solitude, and sincerity. Whether you believe or not, a temple is a place to both confront and calm the uncertainties you carry, and Buzzy Lee shows “being in love” is the most uncertain place to be in.
Buzzy Lee – Walk Away (Official Video)

My fave song of Buzzy Lee is “No Her” because it emotionally guts me, and connects to a central theme in tracks she played like, “Walk Away” and “Facepaint”. In a world that truly believes comparison is the best method of analysis, Buzzy sings to the women who never compared to “her”, the persons whose “present” never compared to the “past”, and this whose vivid dreams for their self do not compare to their darker reality. Yet, you would not feel the weight of these themes, if she did not have a soprano voice that flutters like an angel’s wounded wing. For however much she soars a note, somehow, it feels anchored by a raw wound. Still, a sad song will always be loved, and if you add an electro, futurism to your keyed melodies, like Buzzy Lee, it will be adored.

I could gush about Buzzy Lee because she performs her songs with a tenderness you would hold for a broken heart. Lyrically, each song is a hurt that learned to heal, while Buzzy Lee’s voice was the medicine that soothed it through the pain. For More Information On Buzzy Lee Click Here.
