Concert Preview: Fly By Midnight Will Soar At City Winery

OoooOOOooOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! I like Fly By Midnight. Listening to their new album, Rerunning, it is hard not to pack your suitcase, take out all your money, and simply book a flight to “somewhere.” We all have had an instant when we genuinely wanted to walk away from all that we know, and enter into a new adventure: preferably a love one. On December 6, at City Winery, Fly By Midnight will play the music that soundtracks such a desire.

“You Belong,” “ILYA,” and “All The Feels” swing with the climactic, cinematic vibe of a romantic tale; the moment when “the guy” realizes she is “the one,” and decides to take a leap of faith for love. Their sound, fostered by producer/ duo member Slavo, is acoustically big with an infusion of electro that makes even their “calmest” record feel like a marathon of emotions. The irony is that Rerunning is really based on only a few feelings, particularly, that of love and boredom.

There comes a time, in everyone’s life, when they get bored with their self and their usual habits. Whether or not another person can cure or heal this “boredom” is up for grabs, but tracks like, “Just Say It” and “Heart”, show that how you love someone else, certainly, influences how you love yourself. Justin Bryte captures this influence by swishing his vocality from pain to euphoria. His voice is so clear and crisp it might as well be cider being poured over every synth and causing the instrumentals to go haywire. He shows sentiments are apart of human electricity, especially between people, of which Slavo’s sound makes you feel adrenalized by connection.

Once again, Fly By Midnight are playing City Winery at 8pm on December 6, and Rerunning is perfect material to be played at a live show. It displays their personality, youthful wisdom, and the sheer need we all have to have a good time. In essence, they embody every reason we fall in love, and choose relationships like adventurous escapes from our mundane. Yet, they embody it through music. So go SEE THEM!
