Concert Review: 3Teeth Take A Bite Out Of Webster

If you read my website often then you will know there are certain music genres like, punk and death metal that leave me perplexed by their existence. I have humbled by understanding its history and speaking to hard-core fans of these genres that truly see lead singers, like Alexis Mincolla, like everything they would want to be and all that they currently feel. Hence, at Webster Hall, he was more than just an artist, he was …. Batman.

If Alexis Mincolla had put the Bat-signal upon entrance the show would have felt more complete. He certainly winged around that stage like a bat out of hell, and the inflamed, passion red lighting only amplified this image. You might laugh or ponder at the comparison, but Batman is a sincerely heavy metal/ punk figure. He is a man that suffered traumas and, in response, decides to heal and clash with systems of power, despite never knowing if he is a good enough person to do so. Is this not an argument of punk-metal? How can I counter systems built to burn down the average, working man while feeling like my rage flames with self-loathing?
3TEETH – AMERICAN LANDFILL

Yes, I like picturesque wording but so do 3Teeth.  One of the songs they played, Slavegod, had these lyrics:

You eat the whole plateful

Tasting so bland

Existence so shameful

Gripping the sand

The entire song, like most of their tracks, is an attack on the greedily wealthy and powerfully corrupt, which is their verses on self-destruction are so powerful. Here we are, good people feeling like hell, when worse people truly believe they have the right to define our heaven. It is time to WAKE UP, but 3Teeth ponder if resistance is futile or, at least, is if you do not love yourself. WOAH! Did I just hint an industrial metal band that pandered to images of the underworld were oddly Jesus-like? Hmmmmm……
3TEETH – PRESIDENT X

While Mincolla and co waltzed around that stage like a pack of Joaquin Phoenixes filming Joker, the crowd ate it up. Whether they are Batman or Joker, the point is that embodied figures of chaos and alienation that oddly gain the power to determine and combat those of “status quo;” something their fans and most of us wish we could do.
