Concert Review: Alexis Y Fido Show Why Reggaeton Took Over The World At MSG
If La Mega Summer Concert wanted to prove it was the hottest concert for Reggatoneros, rising and risen, it did! Filled with the likes of J. Balvin, Don Omar, Arcangel, and Wisin, it was a non-stop fest/feast of the #1 hits in Radio Latina. It was clear that everyone there was ready to celebrate our latin roots, wave our banderas, and take pride in a culture filled with love and laughs. Of course, my Boricua flag was waving HIGH when Alexis y Fido marched down a flight of stairs like a pair of Reggaeton ninjas; going to kick beats and slice verses that will leave you lying on the dancefloor.

Everyone knows that Reggaeton is a music for the world, and Alexis y Fido proved why for multiple reasons. Yes, Reggaeton is in SPANISH, but the way this duo flows in verses is a general/ genuine pleasure for any ear. They vocally bounce right off each other like their two brothers readying to meter cizaña, or “trouble”, wherever they go, and they both share the same, rubbled ton that makes theur lyrics feel like tossed rocks. There is no need to understand their words to know their vibe: sexual mischief. They want to cause a few problems and steal a few hearts, and they just might with the amount of SWAG they physically dripped from the stage; hunching over and digging basslines with sensual offers to “get down”” With over 10 years in the Reggaeton game, they had confidence that stood out compared to other, especially new, artists. Alexis Y Fido started in Reggaeton when it was still like a “baby” in this world; learning to walk through bigger, more international stations beyond its beloved mom, Puerto Rico. Thus, in some ways, they were like a headliner of the night in both name and accomplishments.

They had NOTHING to prove as they spewed each rap with an ease; as if they knew no one could make a hit single like them. After all, they were doing some of their greatest hits. Seeing their trajectory, from their first album, Los PItbulls, up until their most recent single, “Me Decontrola” was not just a walk through their career, but also that of Reggaeton. From the more hip-hop based sounds in “Eso Ehh” to the heavier electronica/ digital inspirations that brewed in “Subete”, it was clear that Reggaeton/ Alexis y Fido had grown from an underground sound to being a definer of music/ taste. Despite heavier basslines that have been growing in Reggaton, thanks to Trap infusions, Alexis Y Fido are countering the growing fad with more breeziness and tropical synthwave like in their most recent hits, “Tócate Tu Misma” and “Una En Un Millón”. It was a welcomed change from the general line-up, and proved that time only makes you stand out more, if you are smart enough.

With the hit of “Despacito” Latin music is only growing in international strength, and Alexis Y Fido are doing the same. Growing up, their album “Sobrenatural” defined my walks to school, but yet, seeing them live, made them appear timeless. It could be because they are so natural on stage that their talent showed the only numbers that matter are according to filled out arenas. Seeing thousands at MSG “baila”r as if none of us had work the next day, was a memory only Alexis Y Fido could give. For More Information On Alexis Y Fido Click Here.
