Artist Close-Up: Ames Sings To Adult Relationships

For Ames, love is about growing in one’s truth. Whether it be realizing your sexuality or your spirituality; love matures you. Thus, she previewed songs from an upcoming EP to friends and those eager to know what she has to say that makes her different. At Ludlow House, in style and song, she proved the same is true; the difference is you.

We are all different and the same; sharing in the fact that we are human and growing in how our humanity works within us, of which the latter determines how we are different. Raised in the middle of the Bible Belt, for Ames, being different was hard because she was surrounded by those that taught her sameness is godliness. Yet, from “Hold On”  to “Flowers For Anna,” sang to the permission we give ourselves to love who we want and how we want; something that happens as we mature. Thus, for her, it was not just a matter of her acknowledging her sexuality as much as declaring she wants to be genuinely loved and loving.

With her guitar in hand and a voice that is distinctly smokey, Ames’ song aimed for “adult love,” which made her different. Her songs sang to that moment in your life when peace becomes as important as adventure in a relationship. Moreover, you love someone to teach yourself how to be better at and in love. Thus, in concert, Ames is an easy charm; laughing at her declared “creeper” tendencies, while creating soft, guitar led melodies that hold her verse vulnerability.
