Concert Review: Anna of The North Stakes Claim Over Bowery Ballroom
Ugh! First, I am a total nerd. Part of my love for Anna of The North stems by my sheer appreciation for her name. She sounds like she was born in Westeros, and her fans, definitely, treat her like she is Daenerys singing love song to Jon Snow. She brings a level of power and softness that I can respect, especially when handling certain fans.
Anna Of The North – Dream Girl
I had to laugh when Anna of The North paused to tell her fan, with all the love in the world, she would give her a free shirt if she stopped talking so loudly during songs. It was a Seinfeld moment because it was true. I was on the balcony and heard her, and I only remark the moment to show Anna’s grace, how the girl laughed and hugged her, and how oddly symbolic it was to her music. Her songs, from upbeat to down on love, speak to the times when you have to tell your partner in a relationship, “Sorry, you’re great, but this is about me!” That is NOT EASY to do, especially if you are a woman, on earth, raised to believe that a man’s comfort is more important than your own.
Anna Of The North – Thank Me Later (Official Music Video)
As Anna high-kicked and danced around the stage like she was a one-woman girl group, she emanated an energy that was fun, goody, lovable, and relatable. She is the part of us that feels incredibly strong and weird; emanating a power that is both harmless but conquering in songs like, “Lonely Life,” “Dream Girl,” and a cover of “Nothing Compares 2 U.” For Anna of The North, love is the center of life but until you figure out how to make it true, growing, and unlimited, it can kill you. Thus, her show felt like a girl-talk filled with pop tracks that you sing-out loud when you want to feel like a woman. Hence, from vocals to the interpersonal, Anna of The North felt as much as a performer as she did a friend to her crowd. For More Information On Anna of The North Click Here.
