Concert Review: Arthur Moon In The Sultan Room

When I first saw Arthur Moon, I knew I had seen someone special. She is talented and smart, of which you feel, immediately, in her music. Yet, at Sultan Room, I saw somebody who knew they were special. In a world where everybody wants to stand out, Arthur’s performance and new music showed that all you have to do to stand out is stand up for and within yourself. Her new music and “aura” is all about embracing who you are, which does make you special.

In perspective, not many embrace who they are. If anything, that is the one major struggle we all always carry in life: our constant need to know, like, and hold together who we “think” we are. Yet, there are certainties. For Arthur Moon, those certainties are her sexuality, her heart, the strength of her mind, and her unwillingness to allow any of them to be bent by social injustice. In a way, she reveals the sadly comical hypocrisy of this earth by making every person obsessed with “being special” but creating structures and misinformations to make so many feel like less.
Arthur Moon – Reverse Conversion Therapy

She is a woman that drips resistance and resilience in her vibe and honey-dewed voice, but she is also light-hearted and charming, which of course you can be both. You can chill with friends by a bon-fire and then toss your bra in it in protest to patriarchies. We can do both, which is there is beauty and intelligence in her tracks like, “Homonormo” and “Reverse Conversion Therapy.” She makes loving yourself feel like the chillest act, even if they are against others’ ideologies and desires. Moreover, her music sounds bouquet of the reddest roses being tossed onto a dark path; somehow the most beautiful thing is still managing to cover over the ugliest road. Her synth-waved melodies hovered over the crowd with thoughtfulness and joy, which came, in part, because Arthur Moon was having a blast.
Arthur Moon – The Habit

Over the years, she has become chattier and more vibrant with the audience, and, at Sultan, room she felt her most confident. Personally, I think it is because she really likes her new work and it shows. As a creative I understand and am happy she is happy. It is never easy to feel fulfilled by your artwork or, at least, think it came out close to perfect. Yet, as she spoke on and sang to her work, I realized that your pride in your creation comes in seeing your reflection in it. Arthur Moon knows she is special by just being herself.
