Concert Review: Belle- Skinner Is Fresh Like Air At City Winery
There is an undeniable elegance to Belle-Skinner. She feels like the Audrey Hepburn of smooth- jazz pop. She, somehow, delivers simple hits on silver platters with golden spoons. At City Winery, with the likes of the talented Gracie Tierzan, Belle-Skinner felt like a breathe of fresh air.
Easy is a common word I use to describe how an artist felt accessible and approachable, but Belle- Skinner takes it up a notch by being serene. She is young, talented, and at peace, which feels beautifully strange. Our talents and pressures of time feel most present when we are young, of which her songs do sing to love, youth, and dreams being the usual spectaculars and stresses that cross our mind. Yet, she feels so steady when speaking about it. For her sentimentality lies in stillness, which is why she tight-ropes notes as if vocal balance strikes more emotions than a see-sawing vocality.
I love singing, and some of the most notable singers of our time, such as Mariah Carey or Ariana Grande, are famous because you can’t predict what note they will belt next. Their range allows them to exhilaratingly rocket-ship lyrics, but Belle-Skinner makes her voice flutter in tempos and tones to feel safe and guarding. Suddenly, delicate is the strongest thing to be, which is so important for both the times and music. Often, delicacy is confused with fragility, but Belle- Skinner has a voice and presence that proves it is takes a lot of self-work to be open. It takes a lot of courage to remain kind, and it takes every ounce of your being to hold hope for love. Such a dynamic makes her performance feel as welcoming as Friendsgiving.
Honestly, Belle-Skinner treats the stage like she has been invited to her best friend’s Thanksgiving, which makes sense as she loves her band. She feels coolly excited as she shares her voice and laughs with her surroundings; thus making her songs feel like someone is saying grace. For More Information On Belle -Skinner Click Here.
