Concert Review: Bent Knee Stand Tall At Mercury Lounge
The first time I ever saw Bent Knee I admired their familial unity. You can tell this is a group that cares about each other, which is why I entered Mercury Lounge excited to see how their bond has grown. What I found was that their music has exploded with a forceful, mystifying strength.
I kid you not! This is how the crowd looked throughout the Bent Knee’s show:
One guy screamed so hard, he might have been the first guy to go into labor and be induced through sound. Yet, I could not blame him. The psychedelic rock soundscape of Bent Knee is too epic to deny. They might as well be Led Zepplin’s Kashmir on loop, and you are READY for them to take you to their sonic Narnia. The whole night people bashed their head like Beavis & Butthead or swayed as if Courtney Swain’s voice was a hypnotic crystal swinging at full force. The way she belted notes like Grace Slick made her pour the acid into rock, and we all guzzled in melodic chalices.
She may have struggled to find the words to her appreciation, but, frankly, there was no need for so many thanks. WE were the grateful ones as she turned the watered thoughts of our day into wines thanks to tracks like “Hands Up”, “Hole”, “Paper Earth”, and “Leak Water”. She summoned the magic of these songs as the entire band wailed on their instruments as if they were Harry Potter wielding a wand. Yes, I KNOW I AM USING A LOT OF REFERENCES! Yet, their show is for those that believe in magic and that people can come together to make it.
I already said that I love Bent Knee’s familial dynamic because they are like siblings goofing and jamming together, except these brothers and sisters are prodigious in talent. Their Mercury Lounge show proved they one of THE BEST psych rock groups out there, particularly, for those like myself that enjoy psych rock to feel like they are superheroes or supernatural beings. Bent Knee serve exhilaration in their sound, and you should CLICK HERE to learn more.
