Concert Review: Big Eyes Stakes Her Claim As A Rock Goddess At Alphaville
Ugh, how do I begin? I feel so basic as I write this concert review. Maybe, its because I have just witnessed a woman torpedo through a stage with a level of force that could win a war? Big Eyes, or rather its front woman Kait Eldridge, represents every girl you knew not to mess with because they would pummel you. Hence, her stage performance makes you want to clench your fist and call back every highschool bully that crossed your path. She motivates audience through song and stage to stand up for themselves and stake their claim, which is why she is rock goddess. What is more Rock N’ Roll than putting your foot down and taking what is yours?
It is no wonder that Big Eyes’ Stake My Claim is such a strong record. Check out my review here! My readers know that I admire strength. I like to see a person stand tall and fight for what is theirs and what they want. Kait Eldridge, now my eternal definition of fierce, carries that energy. Her dynamism represents the person you wish to be, and what many rock fans feel the genre represents: the people that stand up to the world and never cave to it. The person that speaks out on injustice, riffs a guitar when she need to emotionally vent, and never backs down from a dream of challenge. I exalt a resilient spirit because with all the “BS” that one can face in their life, perseverance is hard and confidence seems near impossible. Hence, Eldridge approaches the stage like a supernatural anomaly. How can a singular human being hold so much boldness in their self that the audience is sucked into their energy like a supernova? Wait Eldridge MUST ANSWER!
What makes me most excited for Eldridge is that she is an artist that can last forever. While many believe an artist’s success lies in their prosperity, I feel longevity is equally important. Money comes and goes, but what matters is that you do not. We all have seen the rise and fall of musicians that were making millions 2 or 3 years ago, and now are running from the IRS. Longevity is an important artist quality that goes ignored in seeking to push and prep a musician through the industry. Yet, as Eldridge tussles her guitar and vocals like a woman summoning a spirit, I instantly knew this is a musician for the ages. Her unique, ferocious stage presence is like a golden ticket. In a music business that is heavily relying on artists’ concerts for profits and presence, Eldridge feels like an untapped goldmine. She breeds a sense of anarchism and fire that can be watched at all times, and makes everyone of her audience members feel like human torches being lit by her song.
When people go to concerts they want to feel like the artist is their liberator and her music is the key to their chains. Eldridge provides that bountiful sentiment. Your mind and heart combust from the rushes of thoughts and feelings that escape from you. Her voice is relaxed in its lyrical breeding of chaos. As she sings songs from her newest album, Stake My Claim, you think your soul is making a mad dash from yourself because it can finally have no inhibitions. There is no barriers to Eldridge’s style. On the contrary, she assures that Big Eyes, as a band, is anti-barriers. Instead, they are conquerors.
