Concert Review: Billy Raffoul Is Lovely At Gramercy Theatre

The magic of Billy Raffoul is unnaturally natural. He is a pop dream of charm, good humor, and uses the “Bruno Mars” trick of singing to how he never manages to find, keep, and be worthy of “the girl.” Both men were blessed with voices that, again, are so unique, one note of their breathes originality. Hence, Raffoul’s Gramercy Theatre was fun because the audience was as much there for his presence as the headliner

There is a coy wit to Raffoul that, in part, explains why people ransacked his merch table. I can only describe the crowd’s chatter and jitters to meet him by his merchandise to be similar to a pack of seagulls flying over a White Castle. (Hey, it’s what you crave!) Yet, the buying of his merch, along with floating compliments of “God, he is good,” solidified that he is an impactful performer. Technically, he does not do much beyond an occasional, warm chat to amuse the audience, but then you hear him sing and break down the rhythms of songs such as, “Nobody Here,” “Lovely,” and “Difficult,” and, suddenly, your heart is conquered.

Billy Raffoul – Forever (Official Video)

Again, like Bruno Mars, Raffoul is a man with a powerful voice singing to desiring what women want men to want: a stable, loving, and monogamous relationship. It is a strange, hypnotic effect, in part, because you do not hear it often. Sure, everybody sings to the one that broke their heart, but not as many, especially guys, sing to romantically giving themselves to “the one” or  openly exclaiming that they might not be spiritually right for a good woman. Hence, Raffoul’s smoky vocality billows the reasons why we want to find our “person,” and the battles we have between our desperations and our dreams.

It’s not like love will take away the mundane aspects of life like needing to work, have a set time for meals, and struggling to gain a proper sleep schedule. Yet, sharing “the boring” of life with someone makes it exciting, and that is the perspective Billy takes as a lyricist. Moreover, live, Raffoul uses his voice like a volcano turning rocky verses into molten notes. He knows how to mist notes into vaping belts thanks to his distinct vocality. Thus, Billy Raffoul truly spumes the passion of love. For More Information On Billy Raffoul Click Here.
