Concert Review: BRIC! Celebrate Brooklyn Shows Its Relevancy
BRIC! Celebrate Brooklyn’s Noname concert shared a similar vibe to their BadBadNotGood show the previous night: Millennials. Their is something so beautifully magnetic about seeing a batch of twenty-somethings outside, in a park, being stress-free. I do not think people know HOW ANXIOUS MILLENNIALS ARE, and have a right to be in this current world. Hence, BRIC! provided a lineup of artists that perfectly matched much needed fun with thoughtfulness.
First, you had Jazze Belle, of which my literal reaction to their performance can be summed up in this face.
They have a certain vibrance to their performance that comes strictly from having a great personality. It cannot be replicated by anyone, which is why they felt fresh, original, and reviving to a crowd eager to be painted by whatever colorful rhythm came their way. Thus, you could imagine the audience’s reaction when human dynamite, Topaz Jones, lit up the stage. This man is what I call a “guarantee artist”. He never fails to bring good energy, music, and feelings to a stage. He jumps around, spitting his verses as if they were ropes he had to leap from, and solidifies why his fanbase is growing as like its own, private stock market. Yet, the night was capped with the presence of Noname.
Sweet, kind, and radiating poetries that sprout like dandelions meeting the sun, Noname is comparable to a breathe of fresh air. She speaks to the crowd with a meek intimacy like, your oldest, best friend having a casual midday lunch with you. I know that is a randomly specific dynamic, but she matches friendliness with an everydayness, which is why her music so easily follows you. While you think you are following her verses and brightened rhythms, they are the ones trailing you with a feeling of relevancy. This latter word being very important in describing the entire night.
While BRIC! Celebrate Brooklyn aims for diversity, it has also achieved relevancy through its lineup. All three of these artists are rising to musical heights that will make “free tickets” to their show seem impossible. This lineup, definitely, proved that BRCI! is picking up the new artists that are moving these new generations, which brought a whole new level of cool to this concert series.
