Concert Review: BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn Unleashes The Soul Rebels!

If you read my last review of the BRIC festival than noted that I am noting a trend. Every artist brings out something special to the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn Festival!, and the soul rebels brought out Brooklyn’s capacity to dance. Even Chuck Schumer went into the crowd to shake and groove because when the beat is good, so are the vibrations.

I have to say The Soul Rebels had to have been the funnest show, and the one most packed with Millennials eager to see the legend that is Talib Kweli. With raffles abound, I won a set of candles from Ikea, the Prospect Park Bandshell was lit with an energy that left many outside the door. For the first time, to my knowledge, the Bandshell was out of capacity, and I feel this “good problem” is going to keep on happening. As I mentioned the line-up has only gotten better, and that night it felt almost unstoppable. The night trickled with an electricity that made people actually dance, and not stay in their seats nodding their head or clapping occasionally. Couples began to show off their moves as Natasha Diggs brought out a mix of old-school Hip Hop and funkadelicic Motown Classics. I cannot say I have heard the Jackson 5 being blasted so loudly in a park, but they should be! Goapale was my favorite act/ opener because, if there is one thing I like about a show, it is discovering a new favorite. There is something genuinely exciting to finding a new artist to follow, adore, and add to your ipod playlist. Dressed in a fierce, sequined jumpsuit, the neo-soul songstress was undeniable in her spirituality. She sang each song with an adage to its inspiration. Yet, the night was owned by The Soul Rebels whom played with an expressive gusto.

I love feeling like an artist loves their job, which may sound strange, but, sometimes, you can sense when an artist does not want to be on stage or the “accolades” of fame have grown old to them. The Soul Rebels are timeless legends because they play their pieces with a newness that makes classic guests/ artists like Talib Kweli and Pharoahe Monch seem like they are new to the “music scene”, as well. When your style is always refreshing than you allow your audience to always re-discover you. If BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! continues to dominate with line-ups and candle raffles than I will loyally re-discover it every week. For More Information Click Here.
