Concert Review: Car Astor Washes Away Pain At Mercury Lounge
Stripping down her usual, electro pop songs to their acoustic bones, Car Astor gave a healing set to Mercury Lounge. With simply her guitar in hand, she reminded the crowd that this instrument is like a sponge; it gently washes away your pain with its melodies. Thus, as her guitar cleansed her wounds, her verses discussed how they were caused.
For Car Astor, self-love is not simply protective or prosperous to its carrier; it is preventive. Amongst the many reasons you should care about yourself, it is so as not to attract and remain with people that hurt you. The less you think of yourself, the less you demand from others to think highly of you. From “Potions” to “Girlfriend,” Car Astor sings to the realization that you get what you deserve, if you feel you deserve nothing. Thus, it was moving to watch the crowd sing her lyrics as if they had awakened them to realize being your own worst enemy really is bad. Yet, I do not think such emotionality or depth could have been reached without the bare, string-led set.
There is nothing like the “unplugged” version of a song to appreciate a singer’s writing and vocality. Car Astor shined at Mercury Lounge because her voice and verses reverberated to the days of Jewel and Alanis Morissette. Her vocals simply soared like aerial acrobats, but did so with fragility and grace. Part of why we are attracted to singers or certain songs is because they make vulnerability feel beautiful; suddenly, your tears are diamonds and your heartache is just the sullen beginning of a sweeter tale. Car Astor has that ability, and she displays it with a casualness and amiability that makes you cheer for her.
Walking away from Car Astor, the audience felt brightened. Fans aligned to say how much her songs have inspired them, and as she hugged and thanked them, you felt both encouraged and encouraging. There are artists, like Car Astor, that truly want to make the world better with their voice, and I want them to succeed. For More Information on Car Astor Click Here.
