Concert Review: Durand Jones And The Indications Go Motown On MHOW

Sometimes, I do not understand why we dim or shut down genres like, Disco or Motown. These two genres, especially, should be eternalized. Luckily, we have a nw wave of artists seeking to revitalize and modernize the power of such genres, of which Durand Jones And The indications did this at Music Hall of Williamsburg.

On tour for their PHENOMENAL record, American Love Call, Durand Jones And The Indications brought people from every age group to celebrate the forever sounds of Motown. Yet, their work is original, but it feels born in the 60’s and 70’s. This group could EASILY go on tour with The Isley Brothers and The Temptations, which is why they are so exciting. Many of us, even those that were not born in the time, miss the crooning and impassioned belts to love that classic soul gave us. “Circles,” True Love,” “Can’t Keep My Cool,” and “Apache” were odes to love’s life-saving qualities.

Durand Jones & The Indications – Morning in America

Yes, I know that people cannot “save” people, but love can motivate you to save yourself. Durand Jones’ voice treats love like a life-vest you wear as you learn to swim to life’s shore. Better yet, he treats romance like the hands pushing you on Life’s swing. He does not need to work hard as a front-man because his voice has the “David Ruffin” sensibility; inherently emotional. From “Make A Change” to “Smile,” his voice radiated with a sensitivity that symbolized love’s ability to make you feel like you are both kneeling and flying, all at once. Naturally, the crowd could not get enough, and Durand Jones And The Indications became the titular, jam band.

Durand Jones & The Indications – Don’t You Know

Sometimes, you want to hear a band jam. You want to feel entertained and taken to another place; one where love and the fight to make her the main attraction of this wold is eminent. Durand Jones And The Indications are that group. People felt soothed and transformed by their show laughing, dancing, and agreeing that romance will never die.
