Concert Review: Halfnoise Are Very Bice At MHOW

“Are you ready to get groovy? If not, please leave!” This was the quote of the night that Zac Farro continuously repeated. Dressed like he belonged in a Wes Anderson film and with the sporadic, rambunctious nature of nearly every Jim Carrey character, you never knew what “persona” you were going to get from Farro because he doesn’t even know!

Farro is like 50 men in one person. Watching his MHOW show felt like a better space to carry all that personality. Although, I do not think Earth can handle his dynamism; such energy was hypnotizing to a crowd that found him iconic. Who would not want to change personas in a millisecond, and feel free enough to be everyone and everything? That liberation of self played into songs like “Flowers”, “Sudden Feeling”, “Scooby’s In The Back”, and “French Class”, which were presented like spontaneous combustions of psychedelia.

As Farro bounced around the stage like he just drank 3 million gallons of Mountain Dew, I kept on thinking about how CRAZY it is that he is a drummer for Paramore. Why is it madness? Because this man was MADE to be in the front; leading songs! In the same way Father John Misty was once the drummer of Fleet Foxes, the call to be seen is something everyone has, as social beings, but some people were made to be seen. From “In The Summer” to “She Said”, the night zipped by like a rocket on warp-speed. People danced and glittered in an ambiance that promoted cool insanity. For Halfnoise, being weird is being authentic, and being authentic is a GOOD REASON TO DANCE YOUR ASS OFF!

With images of beaches, festivals, and what seemed to be 70’s film captures of a family vacation, Halfnoise provided a cool, distinct place of eccentricity. As one person put it, “Their music makes you sparkle!” It may be an odd way to describe their psychedelic pop, but it makes sense. Nothing like a groovy beat to make you shine like a diamond, or to make you feel “bice”, as Farro says, “Better than nice! Bice!” For More Information on Halfnoise Click Here.
